Carly Steel snagged Red Touch Media’s interim-CMO Jon Accarrino off the Red Touch Red Carpet for a quick interview at this year’s 2013 Daytime Emmy® Awards. Jon explains why Red Touch Media is involved with the Daytime Emmy’s. He also explains just what the Social Media DJ™ is and how it’s integrated into the show.
Carly: We’re on the Red Touch Red Carpet with the CMO of Red Touch Media, Jon Accarrino. Welcome! How are you enjoying tonight so far?
Jon: It was great! So much fun, the red carpet was packed. It was ridiculous.
Carly: Yes! Now tell us about what Red Touch Media is doing here at the Daytime Emmy’s this year.
Jon: Well Red Touch is usually behind the scenes, but this is a great opportunity for us to kind of come out a little bit, show our logo, get a little presence out, let people know what we do. The audience here is perfect for us to engage with. Everyone in this room is a content creator, or they’re involved in the industry, and that’s our audience, that’s our target audience, that’s the people we do business with everyday.
Carly: Now you’ve got some cool things going on tonight, there’s the Social Media DJ™ which everyone is really excited about, how are you guys helping with that fan interaction?
Jon: So instead of, usually on TV shows they’ll put up a hashtag, and they’ll just say “talk about it!” and the show will go on, and the show itself isn’t that engaged with the audience, and not only the audience at home, but the audience in the auditorium, the live audience. So the social DJ concept bridges that gap and makes it a more interactive experience. The people sitting in the live show, in the auditorium, when you think about it, how many total followers that audience has is ridiculous! There’s so many huge names in there with millions of followers each and so for us to engage them in real time during the show and encourage them, we have a news ticker at the bottom of the screens on the side, and then we have this great animation that they’re showing during the commercials really to get people excited about what’s going on, and get them, encourage them, to share with all the viewers at home.
Carly: I love that, that is really cool. Now you guys also partner and work with some major studios, some major movie studios, and television studios, how do you support them?
Jon: Our software covers numerous different challenges and pain points that studios have, for example, a lot of studios still send out DVD screeners. We hear it all the time in the news where sensitive material, whether it be a TV show or a film, that DVD will get lost or left at a bar, or pirated. We see it all the time on sites like BitTorrent. So, Red Touch Media offers a digital solution to that problem allowing content creators to share sensitive content with whoever they want, around the world. It’s a secure digital download, with analytics. We know who watched it, how many times, what device they watched it on, and then so the studios can go back, look at that data. It’s huge for their sales team but it also prevents piracy and protects their content.
Carly: That is fantastic, now is there anyone in particular you’re looking forward to meeting tonight, that you would like to work with?
Jon: I love sci-fi, and George Lucas is in the audience, and he walked by me on the red carpet, I got some chills on the back of my neck. But I love Star Wars, and it’s so cool that George Lucas is here, so I definitely, I don’t know what I would even say to him! I just, I’m happy to be in his general vicinity.
Carly: You gotta think of your opening line, you’re about to go and meet him! So, you gotta start thinking.
Jon: I might speak something in Wookie, or Chewbacca’s language.
Carly: I would like to see that, can we have the camera’s rolling back stage for that? That would be pretty cool. Well lastly, if you could be a guest on any of the nominated, or not nominated Talk Shows, where would you like to go on?
Jon: That’s a good question! There’s something that I think is entertaining with soap operas is when they throw like pies, or get in a mud fight or something, I don’t know! I might just want to be kind of semi-involved in a pie or whipped cream or whatever. They have a whole reel, I saw during rehearsal, they have a whole reel of crazy scenes from soap operas, and if I could do a cameo on a soap opera and have a pie thrown at my face, I guess I would take that.
Carly: I guess that can be arranged! Well what we’ve taken from tonight is that you can speak Wookie and you want a pie thrown in your face. Excellent! All in good fun here at the Daytime Emmy’s, thank you so much for stopping by and chatting with us. Really exciting things you guys are working on and we can not wait to see what the future holds!
