One of the guests who stopped by the Red Touch Media 2013 CES booth was Rick Calvert, co-founder of the New Media Expo (formerly BlogWorld). Frank Radice was able to spend a few minutes chatting with Rick about New Media Expo, which overlapped with CES this year and what Rick’s thoughts were about the technology being shown at CES 2013.
Actually we just ended yesterday. So we overlap with CES by one day. Sunday. Monday. Tuesday.
It was amazing. We had 3,000 attendees – all content creators. And over 400 million impressions in three days or so on Twitter alone.
We were trending number one, ahead of CES for the first 2 days. Yesterday they beat us out. We were number two.
I’m sure it has a little bit to do with it do with it. But it’s because bloggers and other new media content creators are the future of media. I mean it’s a proven fact that bloggers and digital content has more influence than traditional print or broadcast media. And that’s just a fact that CES wants more of us here every year.
So it’s funny. It’s kind of like concept cars at an auto show. You know, you see toys that you can’t really play with yet. 4K is pretty impressive. TV companies still seem to be hung up a little bit on 3D TV, which nobody wants. The Samsung booth… I’m really
impressed with. There’s some great new tablets coming out. Blackberry is kind of showing in their new phone. They’re saying it’s not really “the phone” but a little sneak peek.
Lots of great accessories. For example, iRig, over in the North Hall had these little gizmos that you can hook up to your iOS devices and turn them into recording devices, turn them into amplifiers for your guitar, your keyboard. Pretty sharp.
